Cops responded to the exclusive Hollywood magician’s club and fine dining restaurant after receiving a report of a dead body around 7:30 p.m. local time, cops said.
The victim’s identity was not immediately disclosed. A Hollywood police spokesman told the Daily News that foul play couldn’t immediately be ruled out, although investigators suspect that the death was self-inflicted.
Responding paramedics supposedly discovered a man, only wearing his underwear, dead inside a closet, according to TMZ. The man had a bag over his head and appeared to have hung himself, according to the gossip site.
A police spokesman told The News that the TMZ report was “on point,” but declined to officially corroborate the ghastly details.
The Hollywood landmark opened up its doors in 1963 and caters specifically to magicians and illusionists, brandishing itself “the most extraordinary private club in the world.” The club offers fine dining and magic shows. It also touts a “Clubhouse,” which is only accessible to professional magicians and their guests.
“A typical evening — if there even is such a thing here — features magic shows that range from miracles right under your nose to full stage illusions that stun an entire room,” reads an entry on the Castle’s website.
