‘Yooka-Laylee’ Devs Drop YouTuber JonTron After Controversial Remarks

#JonTron #YookaLayleePlaytonic, the independent developer behind upcoming platformer and Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee, has dropped popular YouTuber JonTron, aka Jon Jafari, from the game’s voice-acting cast.

The news comes on the heels of controversial remarks Jafari made about race and immigration during a recent Twitch stream with Steve “Destiny” Bonnell, as well as a number of tweets made in support of controversial statements made by Iowa Representative Steve King.

“We recently became aware of comments made by voice artist JonTron after development on Yooka-Laylee had been completed,” developer Playtonic in a statement.

“JonTron is a talented video presenter who we were initially, two years ago, happy to include as a voice contributor in our game,” the developers said. “However, in light of his recent personal viewpoints we have made the decision to remove JonTron’s inclusion in the game via a forthcoming content update.”

For his part, JonTron has expressed disappointment and understanding over the decision.

Unfortunate to see Playtonic remove me from Yooka Laylee, but I understand their decision. I wish them the best with their launch!

Jafari has also released a statement clarifying his remarks during the debate with Bonnell.
